    Road trip to Mussorie

Route: Delhi - Ghaziabad - Meerut Bypass - Roorkee - Dehradun - Mussorie
Distance (from Delhi): 275 kms (171 Miles)
Places nearby: Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dhanaulti, Chakrata.

After a long time I managed to get some free time from long busy work hours and escaped to the hills. As a high mountain lad, I have a real deep attachment with hills, valleys and snow. So this the time the destination was Mussorie, we started our trip from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, New Delhi at 5:30 AM after having morning tea.

We moved towards Meerut (NH 58) via Ghaziabad, Modi Nagar and took our first breakfast halt in Haldiram's & McDonald's at Meerut bypass. It was around 7:30 AM and by this time it was already hot, the temperature was above 30°C. After having grilled sandwich and chai we decided to visit Subway to get some veggie sub packed for midway and started the journey towards hills again.

The road from Delhi till this point was good but from Muzzaffar Nagar till Roorkee it is bad and single lane with lots of local traffic on bikes and tractors, this is the only stretch which increases the travel time from Delhi to Mussorie. After crossing Roorkee its dense green forest of Rajaji national park full of monkeys on road side so it’s better not to stop here.

After crossing cuts and curves we reached Maggie hut, which is on the way to Mussorie and this is the place where I always stop on the way to Mussorie, the reason to stop here would be hmm.. I stopped here on my first visit to Mussorie and loved the view from here, sipping chilled beer with hot Maggie gives you feel of heaven.. Lol..

So, finally we reached Mussorie at 2 PM and went to our hotel room straight away, just like Maggie hut, I always prefer to stay in same hotel here its Hotel Padmini Nivas, its pure veg hotel with nice, clean and green lawns.

After spending around 2 hours in Hotel room we strolled toward Hindola (rope way to gun hill), now Mussorie was totally opposite to Delhi in each and every aspect,

Delhi was so hot and humid
    Mussorie was cold and foggy

    Delhi was full of traffic
    Mussorie had very few rickshaw's

    Delhi was noisy and hectic
    Mussorie was calm and silent

Finally, we took the rope-way to reach Gun Hill and spent some time at Purana chai wala (old tea stall).

Hill top was even more foggy

    Hotel Padmini Nivas Lawn

Woke up at 7:00 AM and went for a short walk in lawn and around, I was able to feel the fresh air of the hills and dew drops on grass, so after having breakfast and tea we went to Kempty falls for all day fun, the best thing I like about Kempty is that you get the fresh water from the natural fall and its like a natural swimming pool where I can spend hours and hours in clean water.

So here it is, the curve on the way to Kempty

Now they do have a swimming pool and small boating club too, but I never liked it, I hate it when people try to commercialize everything they can, it's more like exploiting nature.

No doubt it looks beautiful from a distance, but its dull inside

So, after spending around 6 hours at Kempty we moved back to Mussorie and went for a short walk on Mall Road, it's just another street full of shops like any other Mall Road but worth taking a look, shopping here is not advised because most of the things which they sell here are produced in Delhi, Gurgaon or Ghaziabad.

Spent some dark hours at open air bench of Hotel Padmini Nivas sipping beer and chit chatting before hitting the bed late night.
