Till now we are not sure that if we want to spend much time there so it would be really helpful if you can highlight some main attractions of Jaipur which a first timer should not miss and what is the best way to travel from Jaisalmer to Jaipur.

Jaipur is a well established place from last several hundred years and the place was ruled by number of Hindu kings, so I am sure 1 day would not be enough to see the main attractions of Jaipur and to be honest I am still not tired of visiting forts, palaces, temples and other old structures in and around Jaipur. Still few of the main attractions which I can suggest are:
1. Amer Fort (http://www.indiatravelforum.net/indi...rt-jaipur.html (Amer Fort Jaipur))
2. Jaigarh and Nahargarh Fort (http://www.indiatravelforum.net/indi...garh-fort.html (Jaivana cannon Jaigarh Fort))
3. Jal Mahal (these days its closed for renovation)
4. City Palace (its a museum and current residence of Royal Family of Jaipur)
5. Jantar Mantar (garden full of astro instruments)
6. Rambagh Palace (former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur)
7. Chokhi Dhani (commercial place but its good to enjoy some Rajasthani food)
8. Chand Baori (one of the deepest and largest step wells in India)

Amber Fort is one of my favorite sights of this city. I never forget to visit this spot during my trip to India. I have been there almost 3 times in my life. This attraction attracts the visitors due to its unique and attractive architecture. This fort was built in 16th century.
