The Jog falls is one of the highest waterfalls in India. It presents tourists a awesome and a spectacular view and attracts people from different places. It appears as silver ribbons dangling from the skies. It is also called by several other names such Gerusoppe falls, Jogada Gundi etc. These falls are at its peak after the onset of monsoons only. Before the monsoons just strips of water appear to flow.

Another characteristic feature of this falls , which is devoid of other falls is that the water flows straight into the ground , and does not flows through the rocks, They strike the ground with such high force as it sounds as thunders on land, with a gigantic roar . It is a distinctive feature of this falls. Due to the water directly dropping into the ground, this falls is also used as a center for the generation of hydro electricity .It also serves as one of the major sources of electricity to the state of Karnataka. Nearby is a dam known as the Linganmakki dam which stores the water and prevents the roar of the falls.

    Jog Falls: Scenic Beauty

    Hi..
Jog Falls is the second-highest plunge waterfall in India,Located near Sagara, Karnataka, these segmented falls are a major tourist attraction. It is also called by alternative names of Gerusoppe falls, Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi. Jog Falls is created by the Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 m (830 ft), making it the second-highest plunge waterfall in India after the Nohkalikai Falls with a height of 335 m (1100 ft) in Meghalaya. The significance of Jog Falls is that in this waterfall, the water does not stream down the rocks in a tiered fashion. On the contrary, the water thunders down the slope losing contact with the rocks, thus making Jog Falls the tallest unstirred waterfall in the country. This is the reason why Jog Falls is a famous tourist destination frequented by almost every tourist visiting India. The area around the fall is excellent for trekking.
