Gwalior's existence is traced back to 8th century AD and was founded by Raja Surajesan, and today it is know for its historic value, monuments, places and temples. It is said that the city was named after a saint "Gwalipa" who cured King Surajesan's deadly disease.
Gwalior is famed for its glorious structures like rock temples, statues, mosques and its glorious tradition. Gwalior is mentioned in books as the birth place of great musician Tansen who was one of the navratna's of Great Mugal Emperor Akbar.
Gwalior fort is one of the biggest forts in India and is known as Pearl in the Necklace of Forts, this fort is situated on an isolated rock and entire Gwalior city can be seen from here.
